What is 5+ Nuts & Beans for Kidneys?
5+ Nuts & Beans for Kidneys is being done to see if eating meals high in fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, and lean meats, similar to the “Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH)” diet can protect the kidneys.
Eligibility
You may be eligible to participate if you:
- Are African American
- Are at least 21 years old
- Are being treated for high blood pressure
- Are being treated at East Baltimore Medical Center
What is involved in 5+ Nuts and Beans For Kidneys?
- This program will last for 12 months
- There will be a total of 6 visits at a Johns Hopkins clinic
- Screening Visit #1
- Screening Visit #2
- Randomization Visit
- Follow-Up Visit #1 (Month 1)
- Follow-Up Visit #2 (Month 4)
- Follow-Up Visit #3 (Month 12)
- You will receive $480 worth of food from Klein's ShopRite stores of Maryland plus up to $100 for completing study visits
